CVSS v3.1 |
authentik is an open-source identity provider. Prior to 2026.2.7, 2026.5.7, and 2026.8.2, an unauthenticated attacker can submit a malformed SAML message to an authentik deployment using SAML in either the identity-provider or SAML source role. The message can stop the worker handling /application/saml/* or /source/saml/*, causing the requests assigned to that worker to fail. Worker process termination and automatic restart do not destroy database-backed sessions, but continued malicious messages can cause a sustained share of legitimate traffic to fail. Other protocol implementations are not affected. This issue is fixed in versions 2026.2.7, 2026.5.7, and 2026.8.2.
authentik is an open-source identity provider. Prior to 2026.2.7, 2026.5.7, and 2026.8.2, an authentik SAML Source verifies an assertion's signature and validity period but does not ensure that the identity provider issued the assertion for that Source or in response to a login request from that Source. The SAML Source also does not record already accepted assertions, allowing replay. An unauthenticated actor who possesses such a valid assertion can use an assertion intended for another service provider or reuse an earlier assertion to authenticate as the user named by the assertion. Only SAML Sources are affected; SAML Providers and other Source types are not affected. This issue is fixed in versions 2026.2.7, 2026.5.7, and 2026.8.2.
authentik is an open-source identity provider. Prior to 2026.2.7, 2026.5.7, and 2026.8.2, authentik API serializers return stored credentials when an account has view permission on an affected configuration, even when that account is not authorized to change the configuration or read its secrets. Affected configurations include one-time code delivery by mail or SMS, outbound provisioning targets, device trust integrations, identity sources, the Kubernetes outpost integration, applications using a client or shared secret, and applications using a proxy provider. Deployments are affected when view permission is granted to accounts that are not intended to read these credentials; deployments where every viewer is permitted to read them are not affected. This issue is fixed in versions 2026.2.7, 2026.5.7, and 2026.8.2.
authentik is an open-source identity provider. Prior to 2026.2.7, 2026.5.7, and 2026.8.2, an account with delegated permission to manage a group, group membership, or a user can grant superuser status to an account or assign an existing role to a group without holding the permissions that gate those privileges. Group hierarchy checks do not consistently account for superuser status inherited from ancestor groups, and role assignment to a group lacks the required authorization check. Only deployments that delegate these management capabilities to accounts that are not full administrators are affected. This issue is fixed in versions 2026.2.7, 2026.5.7, and 2026.8.2.
authentik is an open-source identity provider. Prior to 2026.2.7, 2026.5.7, and 2026.8.2, authentik email authenticator enrollment during an authentication or enrollment flow accepts a recipient address supplied in the setup request instead of using the address already established by the flow. An actor who knows a target user's password can substitute an attacker-controlled address, receive the one-time code, and finish enrolling the factor as the target. The target must not have enrolled the email factor already. Successful enrollment gives the actor a session as the target and access to single sign-on applications behind the account. Other authenticator types are not affected. This issue is fixed in versions 2026.2.7, 2026.5.7, and 2026.8.2.
authentik is an open-source identity provider. Prior to 2026.2.6 and 2026.5.5, the Remote Access Control endpoint list returns every configured endpoint to any authenticated user regardless of which applications the user may access, and the response includes connection settings that can contain stored credentials. The endpoint listing does not apply the access controls governing the endpoints, and the connection flow does not confirm that an endpoint belongs to the Remote Access Control application through which it was launched. Any authenticated user can therefore read every endpoint together with its host and stored credentials and can open a connection to an endpoint belonging to another application. This exposes stored credentials for managed RDP, SSH, and VNC targets and grants interactive access to systems the user was never authorized to reach. Deployments that do not use the enterprise Remote Access Control provider are not affected. This issue is fixed in versions 2026.2.6 and 2026.5.5.
authentik is an open-source identity provider. Prior to 2026.2.6 and 2026.5.5, a diagnostic action on the LDAP Source API does not enforce the object-level read-authorization filter used by the rest of the API. Any party able to reach the API, including an unauthenticated client, can invoke the diagnostic action against a configured LDAP Source. The server then connects to the upstream directory using the source's configured bind credentials and returns a bounded set of directory entries. The response exposes the distinguished names of those entries and the names of the attributes present on them, revealing directory structure, naming conventions, and the existence of specific accounts and groups, but not attribute values. Deployments without a configured LDAP Source are not affected. This issue is fixed in versions 2026.2.6 and 2026.5.5.
authentik is an open-source identity provider. Prior to 2026.2.6 and 2026.5.5, the enterprise Google Chrome device-trust stages advance the flow without confirming that the out-of-band device attestation actually ran. Affected enterprise deployments place either a Google Chrome Endpoint stage with mode set to REQUIRED or the deprecated Google Chrome Device Trust Connector stage in an authentication flow. The device attestation occurs in a verification iframe that calls the Google Verified Access API and records the verified device on success, but the vulnerable stages treat the flow as passed as soon as the stage is submitted. An attacker who can reach such a stage, including after primary username and password authentication, can skip the verification iframe and authenticate from a device that was never verified. Where device trust is the only additional factor, that protection is fully bypassed, while other configured factors remain in force. This issue is fixed in versions 2026.2.6 and 2026.5.5.
authentik is an open-source identity provider. Prior to 2026.2.6 and 2026.5.5, an inbound SAML Source configured with the non-default USERNAME_LINK or EMAIL_LINK user-matching mode interprets an XML comment in a NameID differently from the identity provider's signed assertion. An attacker with an account on the source identity provider who can set the account's NameID can inject an XML comment that truncates the value used by authentik to the text before the comment while the signed assertion remains valid. A crafted NameID can therefore truncate to a victim's username or email and bind the attacker's external identity to the victim's existing account. This grants full takeover without the victim's password or the identity provider's private key, and the malicious link persists so later logins succeed without the comment. Sources using the default unique-identifier matching mode and authentik's outbound SAML Provider role are not affected. This issue is fixed in versions 2026.2.6 and 2026.5.5.
authentik is an open-source identity provider. Prior to versions 2025.12.6, 2026.2.4, and 2026.5.1, the Source stage can be bypassed by sending an empty POST. This issue has been patched in versions 2025.12.6, 2026.2.4, and 2026.5.1.
authentik is an open-source identity provider. Prior to versions 2025.12.6, 2026.2.4, and 2026.5.1, an attacker with the ability to change a source connection, and an account in one of the configured sources can log into any account. This issue has been patched in versions 2025.12.6, 2026.2.4, and 2026.5.1.
authentik is an open-source identity provider. Prior to versions 2025.12.5, 2026.2.3, and 2026.5.1, authentik's SAML Source ACS endpoint is vulnerable to XML Signature Wrapping when validating upstream SAML responses. An attacker with any account at the upstream IdP can reuse a valid signed assertion to authenticate as another federated user. This issue has been patched in versions 2025.12.5, 2026.2.3, and 2026.5.1.
authentik is an open-source identity provider. Prior to versions 2025.12.5 and 2026.2.3, due to the implementation of stages in the SFE (Simple Flow Executor) in order to make the interface more compatible with legacy browsers, it was possible to use an XSS exploit in the AutosubmitStage. This issue has been patched in versions 2025.12.5 and 2026.2.3.
authentik is an open-source identity provider. Prior to version 2026.2.3, the WS-Federation provider validates the user-supplied wreply parameter using a raw string prefix check rather than proper URL parsing. An attacker who can craft a login link can supply a wreply value on a different origin that passes the check (e.g. https://portal.example.com.evil.tld/), causing the victim's browser to POST the signed WS-Federation login response to attacker-controlled infrastructure. This issue has been patched in version 2026.2.3.
authentik is an open-source identity provider. Prior to versions 2025.12.5 and 2026.2.3, the SAML source response processor (ResponseProcessor.parse()) does not validate the Conditions element on assertions. NotBefore, NotOnOrAfter, and AudienceRestriction are all ignored. This allows replay of expired assertions and acceptance of assertions intended for other service providers. This issue has been patched in versions 2025.12.5 and 2026.2.3.
authentik is an open-source identity provider. In versions prior to 2025.12.5 and 2026.2.0-rc1 through 2026.2.2, authenticated non-admin users with at least one OAuth2 access token can retrieve the client_secret of confidential OAuth2 providers they have previously authenticated against, exposing sensitive information to users without the correct permissions. This logic is GET /api/v3/oauth2/access_tokens/. The API response includes a nested provider object containing client_id and client_secret for providers configured with client_type: confidential, which should not be accessible to low-privilege users. This issue has been fixed in versions 2025.12.5 and 2026.2.3.
authentik is an open-source identity provider. In versions prior to 2025.12.5 and 2026.2.0-rc1 through 2026.2.2, the PATCH /api/v3/core/users/{pk}/ API allows a caller with change_user on a target user to assign arbitrary groups through UserSerializer, including groups with is_superuser=True, without requiring enable_group_superuser, leading to privilege escalation. This bypasses the stricter permission model enforced in group-management paths and enables delegated user-management permissions to escalate target users to administrator-equivalent privilege. Users with permissions to update groups or permissions to update users are able to add themselves or other users they have permissions on to users which have superuser permissions. This issue has been fixed in versions 22025.12.5 and 2026.2.3.
authentik is an open-source identity provider. Versions 2025.12.4 and prior, and versions 2026.2.0-rc1 through 2026.2.2 were vulnerable to Authentication Bypass through SAML NameID XML Comment Injection. Due to how authentik extracted the NameID value from a SAML assertion, it was possible for an attacker to trick authentik into only seeing a part of the NameID value, potentially allowing an attacker to gain access to other accounts. This issue could be exploited on an authentik instance with a SAML Source, where the attacker had an account on the SAML Source and the ability to modify their NameID value (commonly username or E-mail), and XML Signing was enabled. The attacker could modify the SAML assertion given to authentik by injecting a comment within the NameID value, which effectively truncated the NameID value to the snippet before the comment, and gave the attacker access to any user account. This issue has been fixed in versions 2025.12.5 and 2026.2.3.
authentik is an open-source identity provider. From 2021.3.1 to before 2025.8.6, 2025.10.4, and 2025.12.4, when using delegated permissions, a User that has the permission Can view * Property Mapping or Can view Expression Policy is able to execute arbitrary code within the authentik server container through the test endpoint, which is intended to preview how a property mapping/policy works. authentik 2025.8.6, 2025.10.4, and 2025.12.4 fix this issue.
authentik is an open-source identity provider. Prior to 2025.8.6, 2025.10.4, and 2025.12.4, when using a SAML Source that has the option Verify Assertion Signature under Verification Certificate enabled and not Verify Response Signature, or does not have the Encryption Certificate setting under Advanced Protocol settings configured, it was possible for an attacker to inject a malicious assertion before the signed assertion that authentik would use instead. authentik 2025.8.6, 2025.10.4, and 2025.12.4 fix this issue.
